Nobu Hotel Los Cabos Review

The luxurious Nobu Hotel Los Cabos opened in 2019 with only 200 guest rooms. The property has breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and a pristine sandy beachfront. Contemporary Japanese minimalism is displayed throughout the property which offers a fusion of relaxation and inventive restaurants, along with distinctive service.

After a visit here in January 2020, I am thoroughly stunned by the resort. I would recommend this property to mature individuals who are looking for a secluded, relaxing resort on a great stretch of beach with breathtaking sunsets. Enjoy my overview of the resort below and feel free to message me with any inquiries.

Location

Located on the Southern tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula, Nobu Los Cabos is about a 1-hour drive from the Los Cabos Airport. Driving along the coast to/from the hotel, you will experience beautiful scenery of the Ocean and even view a glimpse of "El Arco" which is a distinctive rock formation off the coast. Before you get in the transfer vehicle from the airport to the resort, be sure to use the restroom because of the long drive. In addition, I encourage guests to grab a beverage from one of the many airport bars right outside the transfer waiting area to enjoy during the journey. Some transfer vehicles even have extra drinks available onboard (our party used Amstar and the experience was very smooth).

After you arrive and enjoy the resort for a few days, you may want to consider heading into town for shopping and to experience the local life. A taxi averages $35 one-way.

Beach

Nobu sits on the shores of the famed hotspot – Cabo San Lucas. The wide, clean beach is great for walking and there are no outside vendors trying to push items for sale. Currently, the beach is only shared with the next-door property called Hard Rock Los Cabos, with no other resorts nearby. There are no lounge chairs on the beach, which is disappointing, but it could be because they do not allow guests to swim in the ocean here. The water has a strong rip tide and is not swimmable. Even though guests cannot swim here, the beach is still a great experience. It is spectacular to simply watch and listen to the intense waves crash. Plus, during whale season (December to April), it is likely to see multiple whales directly off the beach, sometimes within 100 yards of shore.

Rooms

There are various room types available to choose from which include different views – golf course view, ocean view, garden view – and either balconies or walkout patios. The ground level rooms that enjoy a golf course view have private plunge pools off the patio. Take note though that these pools can be viewed from rooms above, so the pools are not completely private. Near the main pool, the first level rooms offer swim-out access into the pool.

Even from the entry level rooms, guests will enjoy a luxurious experience with walk-in closets, bathrobes, slippers, spacious bathrooms, and high-end bedding. Each room is stocked with a clothes steamer and in-room safe, along with ample storage space for clothing and shoes. Yoga mats are placed in each room for use during your stay, and also a large, stylish beach bag (these bags are available for purchase in the gift shop if you would like to take one home).

Walking into the large bathrooms, guests will encounter a large, soaking wooden tub inside the open shower which boasts an exquisite rock wall and skylight above to bring natural light into the room. There is a private, closed stall for toilets and the bathroom counter has ample space with dual sinks.

There is a mini bar setup with various items and a menu with pricing to show the amounts that will be charged to your account. An Espresso machine can also be found in the rooms.

Each patio/balcony is equipped with chairs and a table to relax while taking in the views.

For guests who are traveling with others and wish to have connecting rooms, the hotel can easily accommodate that. The connecting door is not a traditional door inside the rooms; it is instead an outside door right in the hall that can be blocked off from the general hotel walkway so that the two rooms inside that connecting door each have an access key and then you can keep both the rooms doors completely open to allow for an elegant setup.

Pools

With 4 pools, there are many options for relaxing during your stay at Nobu Los Cabos. The main pool has its own swim-up bar. There are cantilevered umbrellas surrounding the pools that can offer shade, if desired. Lounge chairs are available both in and out of the water, along with private cabanas that can be rented to enjoy more personal space and service.

Dining

The namesake for the resort came from the Nobu restaurant which is featured on the property and can be visited even by non-resort guests. Nobu Restaurant is nestled close to the ocean and offers several signature dishes. There is an outdoor patio, along with indoor dining and a bar.

Malibu Farm Restaurant offers fresh farm-to-table cuisine and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with indoor and outdoor dining options.

Pacific Restaurant is located near one of the pools with outdoor fine dining. They offer Mexican dishes, along with other pairings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The bar/lounge is open late.

A snackbar and limited menu can be found at Playabar which is near the Cortez pool and only open during the day.

There is a great private outdoor dining table in the main garden area that is available for reservations for up to 8 guests where a meal can be served for your own group in this unique setting.

Without leaving the sanctuary of your luxurious living quarters, in-room dining is an option 24 hours a day. Also, there is a snack area inside the lobby for quick bites between meals.

All outdoor dining areas have large patio heaters to take off the cool evening weather during the winter months.

Spa & Salon

Throughout the property, you will find a Nail Salon, Beauty salon, Barbershop, and Spa. The spa has various treatments rooms, along with a sauna, ice room, hydrotherapy soaking pools, and more.

Fitness Center

The fitness center comes complete with spinning bikes, weights, yoga equipment, and space for Tabata workouts. There is a weekly schedule of complimentary fitness-related activities in the Fitness Center and also in the pool or down at the beach.

Meeting/Rental Space

Corporate and personal events can be hosted at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos using over 14,000 square feet of dedicated event space. The hotel has flexible meeting and event spaces which offer stylish areas based on a guests’ needs and desires.

Wrap-up

Nobu Hotel Los Cabos receives a passing review from me for travelers who seek out a more private and intimate time away. There is not a large entertainment presence from the resort, so this is an ideal destination for guests who keep to themselves for the most part, like to be pampered, and enjoy a luxurious and sophisticated experience.
